Amazing 30 years in Azerbaijan

Our operations

bp has been present in Azerbaijan for 30 years and is the largest foreign investor in the country. We remain committed to delivering our joint energy projects with Azerbaijan over the next decades focusing our regional business on the core assets and developments which have the potential for significant growth.

In the Caspian region, our core business is in Azerbaijan which we see as our valuable energy partner and an important contributor to the regional growth. Here we currently operate one of the world’s great oil fields – the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli and an equally great gas field – Shah Deniz. We also have world class assets and infrastructure in place as both fields are directly linked to local and international markets via a large export system which includes a complex subsea pipeline infrastructure connected with one of the biggest onshore oil and gas terminals in the world – the Sangachal terminal, three export pipelines with a total length of 3,300 km connected with marine export systems on the Black and Mediterranean Seas, and a new gas export system developed as part of Shah Deniz 2 to deliver gas to Turkey and further to Europe.

Partnership with Azerbaijan

In Azerbaijan we have built excellent partnerships with the government, SOCAR and other co-venturers. With our 30-year long track record of successful delivery as the leading operator in the Caspian, we are uniquely positioned to develop these world-class projects safely, reliably and efficiently. We will continue to invest in projects that meet international energy standards, bringing the industry’s most complex and advanced technologies and expertise to the

Caspian. We will build on this unique experience and knowledge to successfully deliver our new projects in this basin – ACG’s further development under the extended new contract, SWAP, Shafag-Asiman and other potential projects.

Our new strategy

Globally, we have now set new aims and ambition to help the world deliver on its climate goals. While also helping meet an ever-growing demand in energy, we will increasingly focus on new opportunities for clean energy, investing in low carbon technologies and accelerating innovation across our business. To that end, we will continue to work closely with the government, SOCAR and other co-venturers on new opportunities in Azerbaijan helping the country’s energy transition and contributing to its clean energy efforts.

Our social investment activities

Over the past 30 years we have been a major contributor to Azerbaijan’s sustainability efforts focusing on the areas where we believe we can make the most difference.

Our extensive social investment activities and capacity-building efforts in the country have had a positive impact and brought tangible benefits to people, improving their lives and making a difference. As the country’s long term and reliable partner, we remain committed to playing a major role in building local capabilities, creating new job opportunities, achieving higher educational standards, creating development opportunities for local communities, developing local enterprises, protecting the environment, enhancing the country’s sporting potential as well as researching and promoting its rich cultural heritage.
