Community

We believe that societies and communities where we work should benefit from our presence.

bp is committed to investing in the communities within which it operates and believes in enriching and impacting these communities meaningfully. This has led to a firm understanding of local needs and the purpose of meeting broader social obligations that ultimately ensure the sustainability of those communities. The overall aim is to achieve sustainable socio-economic development for all beneficiaries in the belief that this will impact positively on the business itself.

bp Southern Africa has supported several disaster relief efforts and community empowerment initiatives as follows:

  • Supporting the Solidarity Fund through a donation of jet fuel to South African Airways (SAA) for transportation of personal protective equipment (PPE) from China for health workers.
  • Partnering with the Gift of the Givers Foundation to set up a mobile testing unit, procuring test kits and protective equipment for health officials conducting the tests in the Eastern Cape.
  • Providing complimentary coffee to COVID-19 uniformed frontline personnel including armed forces, SA Police Service (SAPS) and Emergency Medical Services throughout the lockdown period.
  • Financial donation towards KZN humanitarian assistance and response.
  • Three-year fuel sponsorship partnership valued at R1.8 million with SA Harvest to enable the delivery of rescued meals to the indigent and equally reduce the impact of methane gases from landfill.
